1966 GMC Greyhound Commuter Bus to RV Conversion - Tiny Home / House

1966 Greyhound from the San Fran Bay Area. Purchased the bus from a fleet of buses in the desert of California (Perris, Ca) in 2015. The dry desert climate kept the bus in great condition. I worked with various contractors (skilled carpenter, electrician, plumber, mechanics, auto body painters) to complete the conversion.

Bus was sanded and re-painted in summer 2016. Please see original bus photos above at the end of the album, these were taken prior to any work being done.

I began this project while in a relationship, the size of the vehicle was chosen for the two of us. I wanted to see the project through to completion, however it is just too large for me to drive.

The bus has a manual transmission.

Mechanical work completed:
- Replaced all dry rotted rubber air lines and replace fittings as needed
- The leaking relay valve for the rear brakes was replaced and upgraded to a new valve (original valve is no longer in production and a NOS valve was not available). The DD-3 brake chambers were rebuilt by US Coach (Vineland, NJ that works with 1960's GMC buses exclusively). Both were leaking air and the lock mechanism for the parking brake on one was defective - all has been fixed on these now.
- The air springs on both the front and rear axles were replaced as were the leveling valves. These were dry rotted and several were leaking air.
- The steering linkages were checked and all tie rod ends are in great condition showing no noticeable wear.
- The throttle linkage was stuck, however it was freed it up and lubricated
- The shaft for the bell crank on top of the transmission was removed and then tightened. The truck was greased and the shifter was worked to loosen it up a bit.
