It sometimes seems as if there is nothing new under the sun in regards to tiny houses. There is little truth in that though. There is always something new. Sometimes you just have to adjust your point of focus and look at things less than obvious. Thus is the case with Free Spirit Tiny Homes in the RDU region of North Carolina. Owned by husband and wife team Carol and Jeff Marlow, Free Spirit builds a relatively “standard” tiny home model but do so with quality, hand-built craftsmanship, love and care, and attention to detail, as only a family team would. The Marlow’s build homes that they wouldn’t mind living in themselves.

Carol and Jeff started Free Spirit Tiny Homes after retiring from their nursing careers. Jeff loves construction and is quite good at it as well. Together, over the years, they have enjoyed a successful remodeling business they worked on their days off. They named their new venture Free Spirit Tiny Homes because it defines what they feel is life’s ultimate goal: freedom! It is perhaps their American Dream ethos that truly separates them from the rest though.

“The American dream has always been the concept of owning your own home but often requires large mortgages that take years to pay. Tiny homes are uniquely designed for those who believe the best things in life are not things and hopefully instills the free spirit in you to do more of the things that truly make you happy!”

While Free Spirit currently offers just one model – The Cardinal – they are developing a second model called The Blue Jay. Priced at just $55,000 the 196 sq.ft. Cardinal is built upon an 8.5 ft x 20 ft custom designed trailer with 4″ square tubing. It is a dual axle model with electric brakes on all four wheels. The trailer also has welded-on stabilizer jacks.

The exterior of The Cardinal is cedar lap siding and is stained with a natural finish. The windows are custom Jeld-Wen, vinyl, double hung, tempered glass windows. The roof is a beautiful deep red, locking metal system that matches the inviting red entry door. The house is wired for 50 amp, on grid, service.

The interior of the home is finished with pine T&G and features a Frigidaire 4.5 cubic ft refrigerator with freezer area, a Cuisinart 1.2 cubic ft microwave/convection/grill oven, an A/C with dehumidifier and fan, a single burner, induction cook top, and an exterior mounted, Rinnia top-of-the-line, tankless gas water heater.

Free Spirit is new on the block, so to speak, but they are setting a precedence of careful, thoughtful, quality work, and are creating homes worthy of even the most free spirit!

I’m not clear here: Is the asking price for a finished THOW? or is this price point for a shell?
I’m not seeing a finished THOW.
