I would love to have a tiny home, I live on disability and only get 871.00 a month, so I was hoping that there would be some way I could get one of these houses because in the Union Mo area the rent is very expensive and there is nobody that wants to help or would help, it is very hard to live in anything but a garbage can and at this point that is my next step. I have 2 children but my daughter and her husband live from one month to the next: I have a son who lives about 30 minutes away and has a family but if I say anything to him about money he tells me he is broke, but just last week just bought a brand new car, him and his wife make about 3 times what I make in a month. I would just love to be able to live and not have 5o worry about medication but I am a brittle diabetic, and have Atrial Fibrillation, and on a very expensive medication for this, along with the other medications I am on, and sometimes cannot afford to pay for my medication. Please let me know if you can in any way help or what I can do to get into a tiny home in my area, and you could use what ever I can get into to show people, no matter how many times, or for how ever long. Please let me know something.

    1. Mandi Gardner

I know how you feel. We’re you able to get help and if so how?

    2. Madison

I’m sorry for all your troubles but I can’t understand why you’d air your family issues in a public forum. I too am on disability, millions of us are. If you are really about to be living in a garbage bag you should contact your local public housing authority and get assistance or contact Health and Senior Services or get a caseworker and apply for a Shelter Plus grant. It’s emergency housing that covers everything immediately once they have seen you are truly homeless. Hope that helps. I can’t imagine Union being that expensive to live in. When I was a kid it was just a few trailer parks and not much else I can remember, obviously it has changed A LOT in 25 years.I’m in Columbia and a 3 bedroom in a decent neighborhood is at LEAST $1400 or more. Good luck. Hope your son and daughter come around and realize that they’re supposed to be supporting you now. Kids these days! Think they should have a right to grow up and have a chance to become independent when every mom knows we only gave birth and fed and clothed them for 15/16 years till they could then support us for the next 40-50 years. Spoiled-every one of them. Good luck with that.

  5. Michelle Lynn

I live in Kansas City and I own a small woodworking business. I am interested in building tiny homes for anyone.
There doesn’t seem to much to choose feel around here. I’d like to change that. Please reach out to me.

      1. Aaron Kuttler

I have been looking to purchase a tiny home, in the Kansas City area, for almost two years. I understand your frustration in trying to find anything local. I’m still on the fence of building my own or ordering from Tumbleweed Homes in Colorado Springs. But for what they charge, I could build a pretty nice custom home. To be fair, they are VERY nice!
If you are still interested in building tiny homes, I’d like to speak with you. I am a certified electrician with 10 years experience in about every facet of construction/rehab. Six years ago I started installing solar and wind turbines, eventually designing and installing off-grid power systems. That led me to tiny homes. As I’m sure you’ve discovered by now, once the tiny home idea gets rooted, it’s impossible to forget!
I can be contacted at Waldenman1845@Gmail.com if you still have any interest. Thank you for your time.

Hi, I am so glad I found this site. I am truly interested in a tiny home. I would prefer everything open but the bathroom. I am retired, disabled, was a social worker for 25 years for abused children. For the past 20 years, I have adopted medically needy dogs and loved every moment of caring for them. I want to adopt again, but I rent and landlord wont allow pets. that’s kind of irrelevant I think.. For me I want my own home. I make 40,000 year and have good credit. I have family friends in Eldon Jefferson city area so would like to live in that area. I do not want wheels. I would want a crawl space, one floor, laundry room, bathroom and that’s it I think. Cant wait t hear from you,

Does anyone know how to get around zoning restrictions? Can one type of power or fuel source be used for everything? And if it’s on a trailer, how do you deal w the septic? Also, what’s the smallest type of vehicle that can pull a tiny home? Is a fake fireplace enough to heat a tiny home?

I am a home builder here in central Missouri. I am going to start building tiny homes for people anywhere in the U.S. I believe win homes this small we could find a way to ship them or preferably build them on trailers for easy transport. If anyone on this forum would like me to build you a tiny home call or text me at 573 644 4433 and I will go above and beyond to build you what you want. I’m ready to start building now. Thanks

    1. Rana Bains

I need tiny home or convert my 3 grain silos in home in fulton mo.

  20. Barbara Heizman

There is a place on 58 Hwy, east of downtown Raymore, MO which builds any kind of shed you might want, including ones that look like the victorian tiny homes. I too have been looking around the KC area, and I don’t see anyone building these. It might be a place to start. I know from watching Tiny Homes shows, esp one I saw yesterday, the frame alone can cost around 14k. I don’t see why this company wouldn’t build one if you asked them to. Also Sutherlands sells kits for sheds. They’d surely be willing to get into the Tiny Home movement!

  21. Rita Noneya

Missouri and specifically Kansas City has got to get up to date on small home living in general. People are down sizing for various reasons and tiny living is in demand! I have a 70K budget for a home and it is very hard to find one that isn’t a fixer upper or in a horrible neighborhood.

  22. Greg Rascher

I’m looking to start building tiny houses on trailers in the general St. Louis area, so if anyone around St. Louis is interested in having a custom tiny house built, please read on!

I have a background in residential construction, custom cabinetry, and furniture making. My passions are minimalism and design. I enjoy working with alternative building materials and implementing better building techniques and systems.

My philosophy for tiny houses is simple. Given that you must limit your possessions, your house needs to be designed around the things you have that truly make you happy. With a limited amount of space, there needs to be a place for everything. The finishes, colors, textures you choose should be a reflection of you. This is so important in your home!

Let me know if you are interested in building or just want to talk about tiny houses. Thanks!

    1. Corey Verdusco

Greg, I’m in St. Louis. I am interested in learning more about tiny homes and considering purchasing one.

What’s the best way to reach out to you?

  23. April

Hi I am so happy to hear so many people ready to help with building homes! I am going to have my home someday but I need someone with creativity on using recycled materials in order to accommodate my budget. I live in St. Louis and I’m flexible on the area-from Weldon springs to festus give or take- to get a piece of land and place my own home on it. I need someone who can do most of this themselves instead of a big company please. I really love the idea of shipping container homes but I am open to many options! Please contact me at Aprillynn711@yahoo.com. Thank you all!
