Solar Off-Grid Ohana

Completely "off-the-grid" fairly new one-room cabin for rent! 'Ohana [or cabin] for rent in Ocean View [Hawaiian Ocean View Estates] on the Big Island, near Tiki Lane and Mamalahoa Hwy [zip code 96737]. The 'ohana is 12' x 16' and comes with an electric fridge, a propane one-burner unit for cooking or heating water, a bathroom with flushable toilet and hot shower. The 'ohana has a solar [photovoltaic] system, has water from a catchment tank [renter will need to pay for water], and propane tanks [renter will have to pay for propane]. Currently no bed is in the unit, so renter would need to supply the bed. Rent is $350/month, with first and last month's rent required for deposit. Propane and water aren't very much; roughly about $10/month [of course, depending on one's usage, could be more, could be less]. Prefer a vegetarian, at the very least. Prefer a raw food vegan to occupy; no meat, dairy or other animal product has ever been consumed in the cabin, and REALLY don't want any to be brought into cabin. Internet is available for this area, but renter needs to pay to have installed, as well as pay the monthly fee.

Quiet area. 'Ohana or cabin is pretty small, so one needs to travel [or move] lightly; there is no external storage area. Elevation is around 2200 feet [summers are warmer during morning to the afternoon, then clouds often come in and cool the area off; in winters the temp often gets below 60 at night]. Clothes washer is available; sun is used for drying clothes! It is possible for renter to do some gardening/have garden area. This area is pretty dry, so watering a garden would be necessary. This is sort of 'voluntary simplicity' living for the right person! The post office, stores, gas stations, etc. are about 7 minutes away by vehicle, and about 20-25 minutes walking. Transportation is suggested, although the bus is available. No pets. The cleaning supplies shown in the picture will, of course, be removed before someone moves in.

Those interested will need to submit an application, supply a credit check [it's free], and provide at least three references. Prefer long-term renter, but might be open to other options. Cabin is available now.
