Located in the rainforest on a beautifully landscaped lot in a very desirable neighborhood, the house is situated for maximum privacy. The lot is just under 1/2 acre (20,000 sq ft) and is fully owned, fee-simple. Off-grid means no electric or water bill. There is a 1,000 gallon water tank, full solar-powered electric, and is connected to a septic system - no composting toilet! The house is designed for maximum power-efficiency with a propane on-demand water heater, a propane cooktop, and DC-powered refrigerator. A ceiling fan keeps the home cool on warm days. All the comforts of home while being kind to the environment. SSPP is paid if you want to connect to the the grid - electric poles are at the street.

Volcano is a wonderful community just 3 miles from the entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. It has been the home and vacation destination to artists, scientists, and fabulous neighbors since the plantation days. At 3,500 foot elevation, Volcano is a great escape from the heat and humidity of Hilo and Kona. Delicious restaurants, art galleries, and shopping are just across the highway. All the streets in this neighborhood are paved and it is a very walk and bike friendly area. There is little danger of lava up here at the top of Kilauea and air quality is currently at the best it's been in over 10 years. Insurance is currently provided through VRBO's 3rd party insurance company.
