For Sale: 1986 Holiday Rambler Trailer — Aluma Lite XL
A character-filled retro trailer, thoughtfully updated for indoor–outdoor living. Painted a deep charcoal, this 1986 Holiday Rambler has been loved and lived in with a designer’s touch. It carries some bumps and wear that give it charm, but it’s ready for a new chapter in a new location. Length: 31’ x 8’ wide, or 248 sq ft.
Interior Features:
Sheetrocked interior (will need some refinishing after moving).
New dual split AC system: independent units for bedroom and living room with remote controls; runs cold and heats the spaces quickly.
Platform bedroom (above the gooseneck) with steps + storage, woven king-size headboard, and skylight.
Kitchen: wood counter, sink with ample drawers, sink, retro refrigerator, and small microwave, linen curtains.
Bath area: sink with mirror + lighting, under-drawer storage, and an indoor shower enclosure (fixtures included, never used).
Painted plywood floors with warm, simple character.
Utility: washer + dryer included, but will need hook ups.
Pet-friendly detail: cat/small-dog door in wall.
Jalousie lever windows throughout.
The outdoor experience was a part of the charm and must be rebuilt but we have the crew and the design to recreate it all. We had added a deck and walk-in closet, a small outdoor closet for the toilet and a boardwalk. We had an outdoor shower and had the tub outside. Everything can be rebuilt inexpensively as we did, with the same crew or customized as desired.
Outdoor Living Extras:
Clawfoot tub (outdoor setup).
Outdoor shower fixtures.
Toilet + basic outdoor bath space (easy rebuild with plywood, corrugated roofing, and decking).
Electric water heater.
Work Needed:
Some electrical work.
Plumbing hookups.
Recommended upgrades: insulation from below, resealing of roof after move, exterior paint touch-ups.
Added Value:
Delivery included if in Austin— our team can move the trailer to your new location.
Optional add-ons: same crew can quickly rebuild decking, closet, and boardwalk to your specifications. We’ll even share our planting directives to help transform its new home into a garden retreat.
A rare chance to own a retro Rambler with character, charm, and a soulful indoor–outdoor vibe. With a little love and a little finish work, this trailer can become your backyard guest house, creative studio, or tiny-home getaway.
This trailer and our experience in living in it and outdoors for a year, will be the subject of a 200+ page coffee table book.
Summary of book:
At the back of our nursery, a 1980s Holiday Rambler—painted a dark, romantic charcoal that blends into the landscape—became more than a trailer. It became home. It felt less like an RV and more like an old train car, surrounded by trees. We created most of the “rooms” outside: a clawfoot tub under the sky, a boardwalk strung with lanterns, decks for playing cards by candlelight. The interior was all sheetrocked, fitted with a new dual split AC, a closet that doubles as an indoor shower space, painted plywood floors, and thoughtful touches like a woven king headboard and velvet and linen curtains.
Life in this Rambler was simple but luminous—espresso and a sun-warmed bath in the mornings, evenings lit by music and crickets. It’s been lived in with imagination and care, with upgrades that blend vintage character with modern comfort: washer and dryer, retro refrigerator, wood counters, outdoor shower fixtures, and a reliable electric water heater.
The trailer does need work—electrical, plumbing hookups, insulation, and resealing once moved—but it offers an extraordinary canvas. Delivery is included, and we can even help rebuild the decks and outdoor bath that made this place magical, with planting guidance to help it thrive in its next setting.
This Holiday Rambler isn’t just a trailer—it’s a retreat waiting to be reborn. With its soulful bones and proven potential, it can be your studio, guesthouse, or tiny-home sanctuary.
