About
Priced to sell!
This is a brand-new, custom-built CLC Teardrop Camper. I built this as a side project in my garage. It took me 800 hours over 12 months — finished October 2018.
It is lightweight, weighing about 700 lbs. It features a solar powered electrical system and fits a queen-sized mattress (included).
The base design is a kit from Chesapeake Light Craft, a company based in Annapolis, Maryland. They specialize in build-your-own kits and plans that include sailboats, powerboats, kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and one of their newest designs – the teardrop trailer.
The construction of the camper uses a classic boatbuilding method called stitch-and-glue. The primary material is Okoume marine-grade plywood, held together by epoxy resin, and reinforced with fiberglass.
It’s a camper that’s built like a boat.
The interior is insulated with MiniCel foam which has a suede-like charcoal finish and does not absorb water. The camper includes a queen-size mattress.
The rear of the camper opens to a variety of shelves and storage, as well as a work surface. This area is flexible and can be outfitted for your needs (cooking, sport & game equipment, bait & tackle, etc).
Visible wood is finished with Interlux Schooner high gloss varnish. The blue and white colors are painted with Interlux Brightside polyurethane single part enamel over Interlux Pre-kote primer.
The camper features a fully solar-powered electrical system with LED lighting, charging ports, and powered ventilation.
The electrical system combines Renogy solar equipment and marine-grade components from Blue Sea Systems, Ancor, and West Marine, as well as several RV fittings.
The 12V DC socket, four standard USB ports, and two fast charge USB ports provide options for charging devices such as phones, tablets, and portable speakers, as well as powering lights, fans, and more.
The battery is a West Marine 90Ah deep cycle flooded marine battery with a no-spill design. A temperature sensor monitors the battery compartment for improved battery charging.
The solar system uses two Renogy 100-watt 12V monocrystalline solar panels and the Wanderer 30A PWM charge controller.
The solar panels are mounted to the Thule roof rack and can be easily removed. One or two panels can be used, depending on your electrical needs.
By storing the solar panels, the racks are cleared for bicycles, kayaks, surfboards, etc while traveling. The roof rack can hold up to 150 pounds.
The ventilation is comprised of a Fan-tastic roof vent and four mushroom vents. The Fan-tastic vent has a 12-inch, 3-speed, bi-directional fan that pulls or pushes air through the four mushroom vents for a comfortable night’s sleep.
Four stainless steel, 2-axis swivel LED fixtures make up the interior lighting. Each are individually switchable for full control.
The chassis is a steel utility trailer from Northern Tools with 12-inch wheels, trailer jack, and 2-inch coupler.
The camper weighs approximately 700 pounds and is easily towed by most vehicles. The dimensions are: 132 inches in length (from coupler to rear of camper), 74 inches at the widest point (fender to fender), and 74 inches tall (with the solar panels on).
