When Tiny Really Is Tiny

In the earliest days of the modern tiny house movement, the definition of tiny was much more literal than it is now. In fact, the first modern THOW was just 97 square feet yet incorporated everything one needed to live. And perhaps that is the distinction. Like this 128 square foot, double axle tiny house on wheels, the earlier creations maximized space (without sacrificing luxury) and were truly portable and efficient. Perhaps that is why it is so exciting to know that for less than a luxury sedan you could own your own well-appointed home!

At just 6,000-7,500 lbs (easily pulled by a half-ton pickup), this Buxton Blue house is skinned in clapboard siding with white trim and features a galvalume standing seam metal roof. It is a traditional wood-framed structure and has eight double-hung windows. The design is an XL Fencl or what is now the Overlook by Tumbleweed Tiny Houses. Most notable on the house is the front which incorporates a small 2’ x 2’ entry porch (allowing for an overhang from the 2nd loft inside) to create a very cute bumpout in the house which makes an excellent sitting/lounging area. The tiny is a 30-amp, all-electric model with under-trailer connections for water/sewer/electric. Because it does rely on shore power it is able to pack in some great features such as a 10-gallon Rheem water heater, W/D combo hookups (ventless), garbage disposal, and a high-efficiency AUX Mini-Split HVAC with heat pump (12,000 BTU).

Entry is through a 20” front door which is small for some people’s tastes but is just fine considering it keeps wall space and overall footprint to a maximum inside. The small porch does have an outside light making it convenient for both nighttime and nasty weather days. The interior walls are almost the same color as the exterior of the house and are shiplap with white trim. The floorplan is small so once inside the front door you are in the main living space with the loft ladder just a few feet away and the enclosed bathroom another few feet away.

The most inviting aspect to the house though is the bumpout that was made so popular by Tumbleweed because it allowed for great lounging space while not taking up the primary floor space of the tiny house. It could be used as a workspace/lounge space, you could build a custom window seat with storage for books and other media, you could put in a dropdown dining table; the options are limitless.

Sticking to the left of the interior, the enclosed bathroom has a dual flush commode and a 32” x 32” fiberglass shower stall. Outside the bathroom door is the L-shaped kitchen which has plenty of Granite (Level 5) countertop workspace, multiple plugs for countertop cooktops or microwave or even a coffee pot/expresso machine, open shelves on the wall, a small stainless steel sink, and some under cabinet storage. While it isn’t big, it is high functioning and is perfect for 1 or 2 people. The kitchen also has a brushed aluminum mid-size fridge with freezer. The kitchen is sectioned from the lounge area by the loft ladder that leads up to the sleeping loft which accommodates a queen size bed with 4’ of headroom. It also has its own LED light with switch and electrical outlet perfect for charging devices or plugging in a small fan, etc. There is also a smaller second loft designed just for storage or decoration.

In addition to the above, this tiny house has insulated PEX plumbing, R13 insulation throughout, an exterior water spigot, and working trailer lights so you can start traveling her around the country today!

This tiny house on wheels is ready to be home to someone for an incredibly reasonable price. Well built, stylish, and functional, the nostalgic 16-footer is ready to be called “home, sweet home”.
