Built by Vintage Cottages in Salem, Oregon, this 22” long tandem axle mobile house is just at 200 square feet plus a sleeping loft. The house itself is lumber framed and has a skin of wood lap siding painted a cozy brown with white trim. The walls are all insulated with R-19 batting to help keep the winter chill out and the summer heat deflected. There are 9 windows all told and they are positioned masterfully to allow cross-breeze, ventilation, and plenty of daytime light. The roofing is traditional shingle with box eave.

Entrance to the home is at the rear of the trailer and is inset by a 2’ x 2’ covered porch. While it may not be much in torrential rains, it is nice to provide a little overhang when bringing in the groceries or standing there to unlock the door! The door is a full-light, 10-pane left-hand inswing door and opens up into a beautiful home filled with light, soft colors, and classic furnishings.

The walls are white-washed cedar T&G throughout and the floor is Pergo wood laminate. Visually, the most striking thing about the home is how open it is and how much light pours through the windows and seems to reflect off the walls and floor. There is a small area nestled into the juxtaposed entry inset that currently serves as a breakfast bar but could easily be converted to a reading nook, home for your special pet, or mudroom-type entrance. Above the bar and front door is a hexagon window which adds a certain enchantment to the space and yet more light for a perfect ambiance.

In the main living area is a fold-out couch that is comfortable in the day but creates a great space for movie night or visiting with a guest or even hosting a friend overnight. The wall across from the couch is unobstructed so it makes a perfect spot for a television or projector screen.

The opposite end of the house (the hitch end of the trailer) is split to allow room for a small - but highly functioning - kitchen and a bathroom. The kitchen has a base cabinet with drawers for storage and a formica countertop for prep cooking. There is also a single-basin stainless steel sink. Above the countertop is a gliding window for both ventilation and a great view while cooking. The wall to the side of the workspace has no windows allowing great space for floating or open shelving; more storage opportunity.

The bathroom is very cottage-esque with its traditional, flush commode, pedestal sink, large mirrored medicine cabinet, and shower stall. There is a frosted window in the bathroom as well to serve as steam ventilation and to let a little breeze during those warm showers.

At 9.5’ x 9’ the sleeping loft has ample room for a comfortable night’s sleep. Accessible by a treaded ladder, the loft has its own heightened roof line (with less pitch) and is kept secure by safety spindles. The loft has two horizontal sliding windows for ventilation and breeze, a sconce for ambient lighting, and a great view of the whole house. It is a great space and is big enough for both a queen-size mattress and a side table.

This elegant tiny house on wheels has a 30-watt electric system, does not use propane, and uses a window unit for air conditioning, and a floor heater for warmer air.
