About

Every so often a tiny house on wheels comes along that defies what we know about tiny houses, that redefines what a tiny house can be. This 30’ long THOW in Hopland, California is one of those homes though. While it may not be the prettiest girl at the prom, it is certainly one of the smartest, most fun, most intelligent, and a number of other superlatives. Quite frankly, this home is not going to last long. A quick study of the included photos and this listing will be called home by a new owner quicker than it took to describe it in words.

Built on a heavy duty Iron Eagle 30’, triple axle trailer, the home is traditionally built with lumber, kept temperature-controlled with Rockwool in the walls and spray foam in the ceiling, and skinned with Hardie Board siding. There are 14 windows of all sizes that allow for ventilation when opened, and an abundance of natural lighting when closed. Entry is through a set of tempered clear glass outswing French double doors that lead directly into the living area. No washer dryer but there are hook ups!

The floorplan of the home includes a living area, a kitchen, a bathroom, and two lofts, connected by a metal fabricated walkway with 71” of head space.

The interior of the home is quite modern in its use of geometric patterns, rich colors, pops of red, and deep wooden accents. For instance, the couch situated right across from the entry door, is tucked into a nook painted black with red window trim. It is striking to say the least.

Following along the cork flooring and turning to the right upon entry is the kitchen. The galley kitchen is outfitted with a long butcher block countertop with a stainless steel inset sink, a full-size propane 4-burner stove and oven, a full-size fridge/freezer, plenty of base cabinet storage, a floor to ceiling pantry, and even bar seating for two. Perhaps the most remarkable part of the kitchen though is the three square windows just in front of the sink. They give a unique look to the space without relying on a more traditional bay window or garden window. The kitchen is located beneath one of the two lofts but has an 8’ ceiling which allows for a functional feel. Recessed LED lights illuminate the space making it perfect for food preparation and entertaining.

Turning 180° and looking towards the other end of the tiny house shows a set of turning steps just past the couch that leads to the lofts and walkway. To the left of the staircase is the entry into the bathroom though. Speaking of which, the bathroom is the width of the house and is kept private by a pocket door. The privy features a flush commode, a rectangular sink, and a slate gray subway tile shower with glass doors. It is very contemporary and behind the toilet is a glass mosaic tile that best resembles a school of fish swimming upstream. The cork tile continues even in the bathroom. Of course, the cork’s natural wax makes it inherently water-resistant so it is ideal for the space.

Leaving the bathroom and taking the stairs to the lofts (better described as bedrooms since both have hinged doors and are legitimately closed off like sticks ‘n bricks bedrooms), the most immediate landing goes to the smaller of the two loft bedrooms. A perfect area for a home office or recording studio, it has storage shelves (including two in the upper corners, perfect for speakers or books), two walls painted red, and two black-themed wallpapered accent walls! The room is incredibly chic. It also has recessed LED lights.

The second bedroom is designed to be more of a walk-in closet although it does feature a king size platform bed. In addition, it has two large built-in closets with closing doors, a dressing table, and beautiful pink and black geometric wallpaper with teal trim. It is one of a kind, to be sure! In fact, the house is one of a kind.

The shower and sinks provide both hot and cold water prompted by an on-demand hot water heater that is mounted on the exterior of the THOW. There is also a 12,000 BTU mini split for AC and propane powered heat. There are exterior lights, a gutter system, and a metal roof, in addition to an Aqua-Pure AP904 whole house water filtration system. Although the house is currently shore powered it is completely wired for solar power as well. This home was built with incredible thoughtfulness. As stated earlier, it won’t last long.
