Short In Size But Big In Style
It seems like once you’ve seen one school bus conversion, you’ve seen them all. There just isn’t too many ways you can outfit one into a rolling home. But then along comes a skoolie like this which is, simply put, 21 feet of absolute style. From the cockpit to the emergency door it is stocked with custom features, creature comforts, and thoughtful accouterments.
The Ford E-450 is entered through a traditional school bus door with swing arm. And other than the traditional (or some may call, stealth) yellow paint job, the simple may stop there. Under the hood is a powerful and reliable 7.3L Diesel Engine. The bus is Rear Wheel Drive and only has 230K miles on it. During its conversion time, it has been treated with new head gaskets, a new oil filter, a new front window pane, new brake pads, new tires, new brake lines, new disk pads, new injector cups, a new front windshield, a new fuel and a new oil filter, a new oil injector pump, and been flushed of old coolant and liquids. More than just a day at the school bus spa, this rolling casa has had the full treatment and is purring, waiting for you to pick her up.
Upon first inspection (and before even walking into the bus) one may notice the hardwood, full roof deck up top. That is perfect for stargazing, sunbathing, or just taking in the view. But nestled into the rooftop design are 4-100 watt Renogy 12V monocrystalline solar panels. In the bus are four batteries that store this plethora of energy. They are safely out of the way and stored under the couch behind the driver for easy access.
The cockpit is relatively unchanged as the 450 is styled more like a comfortable Ford van than a bus. It has a radio, temperature controllers, a captain’s chair with a seatbelt, a dash pocket, and an airbag. What has changed though is that there is now a beautiful, custom-built storage system overhead that has built-in shelving and hat and coat pegs. The design is just the first in a number of thoughtful features throughout the skoolie. Out of sight is an AIMS Power3000 Watt Pure SINE Inverter (12V DC to 120V AC), a MaxxAir, Maxxfan deluxe remote control air vent/fan, a custom plexiglass window, a Defender Security Deadbolt on the school bus entry door, and a custom mounted backup camera with LCD monitor and Esky sensors.
A walk down the aisle won’t take you to a bus seat with a creepy neighbor from the strange house on the block but rather to either a living area, a kitchen area, a bedroom, or even a shower area. Most storage is overhead in cleverly built locking cubby bins that resemble more traditional upper cabinetry found in classy kitchens. The long couch is just behind the driver seat and looks plenty comfortable for 3 or 4 people. Across from it is the kitchen area that features a double kitchen sink with a movable, flexible faucet head. To store your food there is a roll-out 62 quart, Whytner freezer/fridge combo unit. The countertop allows for plenty of work room and under it is great storage for larger pots and pans. There is an obscured LED light strip above the sink and counter and two DC outlets for appliances/phone charging/etc. The sink has hot/cold water that is separately adjustable and is fed from a 25-gallon freshwater storage tank with water being heated by an Eccotemp on-demand hot water heater. There is also a built-in camp stove that has a 2-burner stovetop and an oven big enough for an 11” pizza! Underneath is a large drawer for pots and pans.
Next to the sink and just past the front entry, there is a panel that looks like a butcher block cabinet face but hinges open to turn into a work table or dining table with a 45º arm brace. Hidden behind it is a portable compost toilet. Out of sight and definitely out of mind!
Going back across the aisle to the living area and then down the wall to the bedroom, reveals that the bus seating is actually two pullout convertible couches that turn into full-size beds. They have memory foam mattresses and come with pillows and blankets. They also have full storage underneath. Across from the couches is a wall-mounted storage closet that is 15” deep and variable widths. There are six overhead storage cubbies as well as touch-sensitive lighting on the ceiling. Riding in this bus is almost like seeing the country in the first class of a luxury Airbus! If the air gets thick while you are sleeping there are two wall-mounted bedside fans with adjustable speed and timers. There are also two wall-mounted reading lights that are flexible and perfect for catching up on the latest Tom Clancy novel while your road trip partner snoozes. In between the beds is a wooden divider that has both storage and power outlets.
While there is the off-grid power option provided by the solar array, the bus also features a 30-amp built-in power plug for an on-grid option. In addition, your new home comes with a Honda EU2200i (2200 Watt / 120V) Super Quiet portable generator. You will never be without power nor be without that hot water shower at the rear of the bus.
When you go to pick up your new home and ride off into the sunset beyond Hudson Valley, New York, you’ll also be equipped with a set of jumper cables, a DLP mini projector with HDMI and USB inputs, a yoga mat, an extra portable camp stovetop, storage containers, and a portable composting toilet!
This 125 sq.ft. rolling dream is not going to be available for long. It is one of the nicest skoolies even sold on Tiny House Listings. If you want to make an offer, find out more, or just have some questions answered, contact Shana at (432) 287-7986
