About

Front engine. Flat nose. 38 feet long. Do we have your attention yet? If not, we should. This 1982 Bluebird school bus conversion is an off-grid dream with style, function, and power. Titled as a motorhome in the state of Washington, it has become a perfect home on wheels for anyone looking to explore the countryside without being strapped to shore power. The THOW is propelled by two 50-gallon diesel tanks and only has 18,000 miles on the engine.

Stepping aboard the vintage beauty, through the jackknife doors, the only thing that hasn’t been customized is the cockpit and engine cover. Beyond that, the entire bus is setup for a comfortable life on the road.

The front portion of the bus is outfitted with two couches. The driver-side couch houses the solar batteries and charge control system underneath. The passenger-side couch hides additional storage. Both couches fold out and meet in the middle to create one king-size bed. Each couch can comfortably fit an adult without having to fold out. Perfect for that 3rd and 4th guest that may be ambling down the road with you. There is also plenty of overhead storage made of stained wood. It is very well secured and holds quite a bit of weight. The lighting throughout the bus is recessed LED lights and the flooring is high-traffic vinyl planking.

Located just beyond the couches is the kitchen which runs on both sides of the bus. On the driver side is a large base cabinet topped with butcher block. Underneath the sink is a 70L propane tank that fuels the 3-burner cooktop. On the passenger side is the kitchen sink, a 20- gallon water tank that feeds through the on-demand hot water heater and into the kitchen sink and the shower. It is fueled by its own, separate 70L propane tank. In addition, the kitchen has a vintage-inspired turquoise microwave and refrigerator. If you do find yourself staying at an RV park, there is a water inlet on the passenger side to fill the inner water tank (located under the kitchen sink). To say off-grid though there are four 50-gallon water storage barrels secured to the rooftop deck. It is quite easy to run a hose up and fill for an extended off-grid stay.

Because living on the road can be expensive, sometimes a job is required. Not a problem aboard this time home as there is a full-size work desk just past the kitchen. With more butcherblock countertop, the desk has 6 drawers and room for a chair to slide underneath.

Before getting to the bedroom at the rear of the bus, there is a bathroom on one side and a closet with storage on the other. The bathroom has a stand-up shower stall and a separate compost toilet, along with storage shelves. The closet has plenty of hangar space, overhead shelving, and a hanging clothes divider.

To ensure a good night’s sleep, the bedroom is large enough for a king-size mattress but with the ability to adjust to a smaller size. The is storage room under the bed and great views from the unobscured surrounding windows and the emergency escape, which is secured with a wooden door lock preventing the handle from budging on the outside of the bus.

Outside the bus is quite nice as well. Sitting on four brand new tires (that have remained covered with reflective tire covers to preserve their integrity from the elements), there are five deep storage compartments that can be individually locked to protect your belongings. In addition, the roof of the bus is fully decked, accessible by a ladder at the rear of the bus.

The tiny house skoolie is currently in Tampa, Florida, and ready for your on-the-road adventures. To find out more contact Ashley at 704-508-9046.
