About
We asked ourselves what does it take to not only build tiny homes but to build the best tiny homes. This has been our question as we have started this company, and our new tiny house is the answer. It is more expensive than the average tiny house. However, it is not an average tiny house. Instead of doing this cheaply, we did this right, and we have included the highest quality in all the products we put in it.
This tiny home has raised the bar on tiny living in Canada. We started with a custom trailer and added a house that is extraordinarily sturdy, insulated and viable for consistent long-term use. Once the structure was in place, we added the best finishes available. We did this while also ensuring that this tiny home can go completely off-grid or be grid-connected, thus ensuring it will work wherever you need it to. Some of the most noteworthy of these are:
· Ultra-efficient LED lighting (so efficient in fact, that all 27 lights in the home can be run off of less than 15 amps- which is amazing)
· The best double pane windows available as well as a triple pane in the kitchen (boosting R-values of 5.5 and 8.25 respectively) – and there are many windows bringing lots of light and creates the feeling of more space.
· Solar Cell integration capable
· More waterproof than any conventional house or tiny house
· A copper penny finished roof
· A beautiful tempered glass rounded shower (who says you need to shower in a matchbox )
· A crushed marble vanity
· High Durability Engineered Flooring
· Stainless steel sliding barn door assembly with a beautiful custom geometric door made by us out of a variety of woods species.
· Custom storage making aspen ply staircase
· LED light spectrum along kitchen cabinet toe-kicks
· Double treated cedar siding, and high grade galvanized steel exterior
· High efficiency insulated front door with double pane frosted glass panels.
We also researched the best appliances we could include. Living small can be a difficulty, but premium high-efficiency appliances can help.
· An LG Smart Washer/Dryer Combo – Ventless (to keep all of that heat inside the home)
· An EccoTemp I12 on-demand hot water unit (LP for your off-grid capability)
· A Dometic “New Generation” 2-phase fridge with a bragworthy nine cubic feet of space (runs on electricity as well as propane to meet your needs)
· A Martin Direct-Vent Wall-Mounted Fireplace to keep you warm an even the coldest of Canadian nights (LP for off the grid living)
· A 3-burner professional stainless-steel cooktop (LP)
· A “Whisper Series” Panasonic bathroom fan
· A Choice of a convection microwave (combination of a microwave and oven), or a conventional gas or electric oven. You get to choose, and we will put it in for you.
· A direct vent fume hood
· DC Inverter for exterior lighting
The Nitty Gritty Specs:
· 390 square feet- Including the sleeping loft over the kitchen as well as the bonus room over the gooseneck.
· Insulation: R32 on average – Rock wool (primary), spray foam, and fiberglass combo for maximum insulation. We choose rock wool because it is fire retardant, recycled and does not trap electrical fixtures in-place like using just spray foam would.
· Electrical: Wired for 50 Amps and to Alberta Housing Specification – However 50 amps are far more than is required, but this will allow you to have wiggle room if you were to include an electric fireplace, Outdoor patio lights, and all electric appliances. Fully capable of grid-tie, or off-grid solar.
· Plumbing: Plumbed to Alberta Housing Standard – heavily insulated ABS piping & PEX water lines – allows for a compost toilet, conventional toilet, or even macerating toilet. The plumbing can be attached to a septic tank, or to a septic field or whatever you want to do.
· Waterproofing: Blueskin waterproofing across the entire roof and top trim, Tyvek outer wrap with blue tuck tape and silicone along seams, aluminum undercarriage with rubber latex coating. Simply put, this house is waterproof well beyond the industry standard.
· Walls: Instead of using drywall which can crack easily, has significant weight, and has low insulator capacity – we used high-grade Douglas Fir plywood with a bead of pure silicone between them so that they can flex with the house. This also allows for items to be mounted anywhere on the way.
· Trailer Anchoring: We anchored the house structure with 70 3/8” carriage bolts (substantially exceeding the standard). Furthermore, since we got this trailer built custom for this house the house is embedded within the trailer, the house will not flex like some tiny homes or most campers on the trailer.
· Trailer: triple axel with a 4” drop – rated for a weight of 21,000 pounds. Our tiny home and trailer with everything in it are 17,000. This means that this trailer is more than up to the task of holding everything you need. The trailer also has two 10,000-pound jacks on the front of the trailer and two 8,000-pound jacks on the back. This allows for the entire home to be lifted off the tires for long-term parking…. We also utilized a gooseneck trailer because it is far safer than a traditional hitch and does not require such a large vehicle to pull. A 1-ton will pull this just fine, but a traditional hitch would safely require a 2-ton truck at least.
o 28-foot trailer + the gooseneck
o 103 ½ inches wide (just below the wide load threshold) – no permit required
o 13’ feet, 4” inches tall – (just below the max height threshold) – no permit required
We have built a tiny house like a house and to the standard of a house. This is not a tiny house that will start to fail after 5-10 years because it is built cheaply or built on a trailer that was not designed for it. We promote tiny living, and what that means is that we believe that a tiny house should be liveable as long as any conventional house should be.
Why invest in something mediocre when you can have a beautiful home that will endure for a lifetime, or will maintain its resale value years down the road.
We invite you to experience the next level of tiny house quality. We are building tiny custom homes that will work for your lifestyle and really show the world what a tiny house can really do.
