3 acres in a beautiful Ohia (tree) rainforest with a couple of small units we use for housing. Very private.

The lot has a unique, small modern yurt – it’s not real purty but it’s very effective with the rain (120-200 inches a year). All your shower/laundry water comes from a 4,000 gallon swimming pool and you get your drinking water, free of charge from a set of county spigots 6 miles away. We use four 5 gallon jugs and that gets us through a half month or more.
We cook on a small two burner propane stove ($22 a month in propane) to cook, heat up dish and laundry water.
Make no mistake about it this is very basic living. But it would be good for a vacation or while you plan and build your dream home.
Second picture and last picture are of the yurt during construction.
The third picture is a view of our propane stove as well as from our yurt to our second structure, which we were going to turn into an insulated sleeping chambers, and the Ohia rainforest is beyond that.
A few interesting things about our place are that 1) it already has good accessibilty. Many “lots” in Hawaii are impossible – yes actually, and really, impossible to get into. A massive D9 bulldozer is a requirement here for both a driveway and a “house pad.” This can cost thousands and thousands of dollars. Our place already has a driveway and a house pad. 2) we have electric and phone lines at the front of the lot. These services are inaccessible in some places on the big island. 3) it is only 12 miles to Hilo.
I also have a friend who stays in another small structure on the property very close by and who knows Hawaii very well. He’s also very handy, very energetic, and a helluva a ukelele player. He might be open if you’ld like him to stay on and show you the ropes.
